Description

BOVEY TRACEY SOUTHBROOK LANE SX 87 NW

5/84 Linhay 20 metres south-west of - Southbrook Farmhouse

GV II

L-shaped linhay, probably U-shaped originally, the right-hand arm (not included in the listing), having been converted to living accommodation in C20. C18 or C19. Stone and timber. Slated roof with clay ridge-tiles. Lower storey has open arcade with 7 granite posts, 4 in left arm, 1 at the angle and 2 at the base of the V. Upper storey, in which only the rough floor-beams survive, has studded front covered with weather-boarding. Roof-trusses have plain principals, notched at apex. Collars, nailed to face of principals, have vertical posts nailed to them and to the apexes of the trusses, to carry a plank ridge. Makes an excellent group with Southbrook Farmhouse (q.v) and Southbrook Cottages (q.v.) in a largely unspoiled hamlet.
