Description
This is an L-shaped linhay, likely originally U-shaped, located 20 meters south-west of Southbrook Farmhouse. The right-hand arm has been converted into living accommodation in the 20th century. It dates from the 18th or 19th century and is constructed of stone and timber, featuring a slated roof with clay ridge-tiles. The lower storey has an open arcade supported by seven granite posts: four in the left arm, one at the angle, and two at the base of the V. The upper storey retains only the rough floor-beams and has a studded front covered with weather-boarding. The roof trusses have plain principals that are notched at the apex. Collars are nailed to the face of the principals, with vertical posts attached to them and to the apexes of the trusses, supporting a plank ridge. This linhay forms an excellent group with Southbrook Farmhouse and Southbrook Cottages in a largely unspoiled hamlet.
