Description
Cross Cottage is a house from the early 19th century, featuring roughcast solid walls, likely made of stone. It has two parallel slated roofs, with the front range known to have been thatched around 1836. There are rendered chimneystacks on all four gables. The house has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high. The symmetrical southeast front has three windows and a central doorway. Original wooden windows are present throughout, with 2-light casements on the second storey and 2-light French windows on the ground storey. Each window has straight-headed lights with pointed arches in the glazing, and small square panes topped by a pair of pointed arches. The doorway features double doors, each with a flush wood panel in the lower part. The northwest front has standard 8-paned sash windows. Although the interior has not been inspected, it includes a wooden open-well staircase with square-section balusters and shaped step-ends that opens off the southeast doorway.
