Description

Cromwell's Arch is a medieval arch located across part of the entrance to Abbey Road in Bovey Tracey. It is believed to be in its original position. The arch is made of granite and features a large two-centred arch with two sets of ogee mouldings and moulded convex stops at the base. On the Abbey Road side, there are rebates for gates, and one large iron hinge remains. Locally, it is thought to be a remnant of a monastery, although no such institution is documented to have existed in the town.
