Description
Thatches and Park View are two cottages that were originally one house, likely built in the 17th century and extended in the 18th and 20th centuries. The cottages have rendered cob walls and a half-hipped thatched roof. There is a projecting lateral rendered rubble stack at both the rear and front, along with an axial brick stack next to the wing. The original layout featured three rooms with a through-passage plan, where the lower end is to the left. The hall was likely heated by the rear lateral stack, while the lower room was heated by the front lateral stack. An unheated inner room possibly had an axial stack added when a one-room wing was constructed in the 18th century. The building was divided into two cottages above the lower room, probably in the 19th century. A flat-roofed extension from the 20th century is located at the rear of the former lower room, Park View. The structure is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front for Thatches, with Park View to the left. The early 20th-century windows are two-light casements with glazing bars set in small openings. There is a projecting lateral stack to the left of centre, and a part-glazed porch from the 20th century to the right of centre in Thatches. A similar 20th-century window is found in the Thatches wing. Park View features a porch that projects from the left gable end, which has a stable-type door. The interior was inaccessible during the survey but may contain interesting features, including possibly an early roof structure.
