Description
Model Cottage and The Quest are a pair of estate-type cottages built in the mid to late 18th century. They feature limestone rubble walls with brick detailing around the windows and have a gable-ended roof covered in asbestos slate. A central rendered axial stack is present. Each cottage has an entrance lobby with stairs and a small unheated service room located behind it, while the main heated room is adjacent to the lobby and spans the full depth of the cottage. There are 19th and 20th-century rear additions. The cottages are two storeys tall with a symmetrical two-window front, featuring one window for each cottage on both the ground and first floors; Model Cottage is on the left and The Quest is on the right. The original windows are three-light metal frame casements with diamond leaded lights and hoodmoulds above. The first-floor windows are similar gabled dormers. The doors are likely 20th-century planks with cover strips, and there are rustic gabled porches. The interior has not been inspected.
