Description

These are a pair of quarryman’s cottages built in the 18th century, aligned north-west to south-east. Each cottage has a single-storey, two-room plan with a loft space. They are constructed from roughly coursed and dressed rubblestone, with the gable ends rendered and painted. The roofs are slate-covered. Each cottage has three-light windows with slate sills, placed on either side of a slightly offset entrance. Integral end stacks and a shared ridge stack are located centrally between the two cottages. There are also windows in the gable ends, illuminating the lofts and catslide lean-tos at the rear of the buildings. These cottages belong to a group of two. They have been altered to the front, now featuring a roughcast finish, a flat-roofed porch on the right, two 20th-century windows on the left, a 20th-century rooflight on the right, and a removed integral end stack. The interior was not inspected.
