Description
This is a pair of cottages located at Langdown Cross, built in the late 1900s. They are constructed from local stone rubble laid in rough courses, with granite ashlar quoins. The cottages feature stone or brick stacks with brick chimney shafts and have a slate roof adorned with pierced crested ridge tiles.
The cottages are designed as a mirror image of each other, facing southeast. The central section of each cottage projects forward and is two rooms deep, with each cottage being one room wide on either side of an axial stack that serves back-to-back fireplaces. Each cottage includes a third room that has a rear lateral stack projecting outwards. There is an entrance porch situated in the angle between the rooms of each cottage.
The cottages are two storeys high and likely have integral outshots at the rear. The exterior is symmetrical, with the projecting center containing front windows—one for each cottage. These windows are original casements with glazing bars, and the first-floor windows are gabled half dormers with plain bargeboards. Lean-to porches at the angles feature plain plank doors. The roof over the central section is tall and hipped at both ends, while the outer wings have gable ends. Additional windows are present in the end walls. The interiors have not been inspected.
