Description
North Wyke Lodge is a lodge built in 1904, likely designed by Fellows Prynne, who also oversaw the extensive renovation of the main house at North Wyke. The building is constructed from snecked Cocktree stone with granite ashlar quoins and detailing, featuring a Cocktree stone stack and chimney shaft with granite coping, and has a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan that faces southeast towards the drive leading to North Wyke. The main block is gable-end to the front and consists of two rooms deep, with a projecting lateral stack on the right side. There is a one-room plan wing that projects at a right angle to the right of the rear room, and the entrance hall and stairs are located in the angle between the two wings. The lodge is two storeys tall and designed in the Tudor style.
The gable-end front of the main block features a ground floor three-light and a first floor two-light granite-mullioned window, both with hoodmoulds and labels carved with elements from the Wyke arms. All the gables have shaped kneelers and coping. To the right and set back is the gabled entrance hall and stair block, which includes a Tudor arch doorway with a hoodmould and a panelled door. Above the doorway is a sandstone plaque carved with the Wyke arms, and above that is a plaque with the initials of the Reverend Wykes-Finch. The windows on the other sides of the lodge are also granite mullioned. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge is part of the overall improvement of the property linked to the refurbishment of North Wyke.
