Description
Fordbrook Farmhouse, including an adjoining outbuilding, dates from the early 16th century. It is constructed of whitewashed stone rubble and features an asbestos slate hipped and half-hipped roof. The farmhouse has two storeys and a four-window range, with 18th and 19th century casements that include glazing bars. There is a 20th century glazed porch located off-center leading to a cross passage. A rendered chimney stack is positioned off-center, backing onto the cross passage, and there are outshuts at the rear.
The adjoining shippen, which is a later addition from the 17th century, is made of stone rubble and has a half-hipped corrugated iron roof. It features external stairs leading to a loft door with nail-studded doors. Inside the farmhouse, there is a chamfered ogee arched wooden door frame at the lower end in the cross passage, and a similar but moulded door frame at the higher end. The cross passage also contains chamfered beams and other exposed ceiling beams, along with wooden half newel stairs at the rear.
