Description
Battershill House is a probable farmhouse that has been converted into two houses. It likely dates from the 17th century or early 18th century. The building is constructed of rubble, with the front mostly rendered and the rest painted. It features a hipped roof, with the left side covered in scantle slate and some 17th-century crested clay ridge tiles, while the rest is finished with dry slate. There are two large gabled lateral stacks at the rear. The original layout was probably a three-room and through or cross-passage plan, with a later lean-to added at the rear left.
The house is two storeys high and has an overall six-window range with irregularly placed openings. The left side features late 19th-century horned sash windows, while the rest of the windows are from the 20th century. There is a glazed and panelled door on the left side, and a 20th-century door within a 20th-century conservatory on the right.
Inside the left-hand part, the hall has slate flags, early 19th-century window panelled shutters, an arched doorway with fluted pilasters, cupboards with moulded frames, and two fireplaces on the rear wall. The interior was only partially inspected.
