Description
The conduit, built in 1708 but dated 1874, was relocated from the center of the street to its current position. It is constructed from large cut granite blocks and features a square structure with an offset plinth and a heavy roll-mould cornice. The cornice supports a weathered pyramidal crown topped with a large ball finial and smaller finials at the four lower corners. The right side of the conduit has an opening. It is set on a paved area that is enclosed by walls with hit and miss copings, and at the front, there are two square piers with pyramid caps. From these piers, small curved segment walls approximately 1 meter high lead to weathered copings, which support cast iron spear-head railings that extend back to the sides of the conduit house. An inscription panel on the structure reads: "DONO ADRIANI SWETE EQUITIS DE TRAIN ANO DOM 1708 IN HUNC SITUM E MEDIA VIA TRANSLATUM 1874." This conduit was part of the water supply system for Modbury and was in use until the 1950s.
