Description
South Traine and 25 Brownston Street is a former service block and stables that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and is constructed of rubble with an asbestos-cement slate roof. The building consists of two sections, with part of No. 25 set back and featuring a lower roof. There is a broad throughway between the two properties.
The left section has a small eaves casement above a larger two-light window below, and a 20th-century door on the gable side. The main block is one and a half storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two small square lights to the left of the throughway arch, which has a segmental head made of brick voussoirs. To the right, there are three large two-light casements with chamfered brick surrounds and segmental arched heads. The first floor features one to three casements in two lights with segmental heads under semi-dormers, which have deep scalloped barge-boards and finials. There are also two small brick stacks.
This building is included primarily for its group value as part of the Traine assembly.
