MODBURY BROWNSTON STREET (east side) Gateway to Old Traine

27.1.89

GV II Gateway. C19 but incorporating De Traine Arms of 1472. Large square dressed stone blocks to weathered coping on chamfered brick 'modillions'; three-part wall, c.2.25 m high each side of raised section c.3.5 m high, total width c.8.5 m, on an offset plinth. Central four-centred arch to voussoirs over C19 plank and fillet door on two granite steps. Limestone plaque above with 1472 coat of arms and central terra-cotta urn.

The gateway gives to a footpath to Old Traine (qv), and is situated opposite Trayne House (qv).
