Description
The Gateway to Old Traine is a 19th-century structure that incorporates the De Traine Arms from 1472. It features large square dressed stone blocks with weathered coping on chamfered brick modillions. The gateway consists of a three-part wall, approximately 2.25 meters high on each side of a raised section that is about 3.5 meters high, with a total width of around 8.5 meters on an offset plinth. In the center, there is a four-centred arch made of voussoirs above a 19th-century plank and fillet door, which is accessed by two granite steps. Above the door, there is a limestone plaque displaying the 1472 coat of arms, along with a central terra-cotta urn. The gateway leads to a footpath to Old Traine and is located opposite Trayne House.
