Description

LODDISWELL HAZLEWOOD SX 75 SW 2/103 Estate Cottage c.120 metres south-east of Hazlewood House II Detached house. c.1850. Rubble, rendered to south front, brick dressings, slate roof. A cross-gabled plan in 2 storeys, set with its long axis across the steep ground slope. The main, south front has 2 windows at each level, all 2-light glazing bar casements, and an arched blind centre unit over plank door with pent hood on pole supports. Central flush gable with blind oculus and caps to pilasters which run through to plinth, set-in pilasters to eaves on either side, and bold mid-string, articulated over the pilasters. East gable, to valley, has C20 2-light casement in blocked opening with 4-centred brick arch. Both verges coped and on kneelers. Back has flush centre gable with oculus, flanked by large stacks. Three blocked openings to brick 4-centred arches at upper floor, and lean-to in 2 bays below. Interior not inspected. An estate cottage of deliberate and forceful design in keeping with the main house (q.v.).
