Description
Topsham Bridge is a road bridge over the River Avon, built in the 18th or 19th century, incorporating a 16th-century arch. It features coursed rubble and squared granite coping, with a series of regularly spaced vertical through-stones. The original pointed arch is now enclosed by a segmental arch due to later road widening. The parapets rise to approximately 1.25 meters above the roadway, which is about 3.5 meters wide. On the west side, the parapets sweep down and round to stopped ends, while on the south-east side, they extend into a continuous wall for about 50 meters. The north-east side returns to a stopped end, both of these sections located in Woodleigh civil parish. The parapet rises at the center, creating a graceful design that incorporates important historic elements.
