Description
Torrings is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building features colour-washed stone rubble walls and a gable-ended thatch roof, supported by two stone rubble stacks—one axial and one at the right gable end. The layout consists of a three-room plan, with a narrow room at the left-hand end, which serves as the entrance, and two larger rooms, each heated by a fireplace in the end wall. An inserted 20th-century staircase is located between the two larger rooms. A barn, added in the late 18th century or early 19th century, is situated at the left-hand end of the house, built partly into the hillside. The barn has a wide doorway towards the right-hand end and a smaller one further up. The exterior of the house is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical four-window front, primarily consisting of early 20th-century four-pane sash windows, along with two single-light 20th-century casements. There is a lean-to 20th-century porch on the left with a stable-type door. The interior has been significantly altered in the 20th century, with replaced beams and modified fireplaces.
