CHIVELSTONE EAST PRAWLE SX 73 NE 9/14 Torrings

II

House formerly farmhouse. Circa late C17 or early C18 with C20 alterations. Colour-washed stone rubble walls. Gable ended thatch roof. 2 stone rubble stacks, one axial and one at right gable end. Plan: 3-room plan with narrow room at left-hand end, through which house is entered and 2 larger rooms each heated by a fireplace in the end wall. Between them is an inserted C20 staircase. Later C18 or early C19 barn added at left-hand end. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front mainly of circa early C20 4- pane sashes but also 2 single-light C20 casements. Leanto C20 porch to left with stable-type door. Barn at left-hand end, built partly into the hillside with a wide doorway towards the right-hand end and a smaller one further up. Interior: much altered in C20, beams have been replaced and fireplaces altered.
