Description

A row of four cottages located in Chivelstone, East Prawle, dating back to the 18th century and altered in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of slatestone rubble walls with a hipped thatch roof and two axial brick stacks. Originally, they appear to have been built as four single-room cottages, potentially with a narrow service room at the rear. Later additions were built at the rear in the late 19th or 20th century. The cottages were converted into two dwellings during the 20th century, but subsequently reverted to their original four-cottage configuration in the late 20th century.

The cottages present a regular five-window front. Sleepy Thatch, on the left, has metal frame casement windows fitted in the mid-20th century. The other three cottages feature later 20th-century casement windows without glazing bars. All windows have brick arched lintels above. Sleepy Thatch has a 20th-century panelled door on the left side, while Sunny Thatch has a plank door on the right, both sheltered by thatched hoods. Vine Cottage and No. 4 Vine Cottage each have a 20th-century lean-to glazed porch on their left and right sides.

The interiors were inaccessible at the time of survey.
