WEST ALVINGTON SX 74 SW 5/193 Pound house approximately 15m. east of Longbrook Farmhouse

Farm building, reputedly a pound house. Roughly coursed slatestone rubble walls with cob at the top. Thatch roof with corrugated iron over, hipped to the left end, half-hipped to the right. Plan: rectangular, apparently originally a 2-bay linhay at the left-hand end, pound house to the right and a small wing at the right-hand end. Exterior: 2 storeys with a single storey wing projecting from the right-herd end. Lower left-hand part was originally open-fronted with a central circular rubble pier, It has now been infilled with stone on the ground floor, weatherboarding above. Along the front are 3 doorways and a first floor loading hatch. Interior: not inspected.
