Description

Woodhouse Farmhouse is a mid-19th century farmhouse with a 20th-century addition, featuring slate stone rubble walls and a hipped slate roof with wide overhanging eaves. The building has an L-shaped plan, with an entrance hall to the left of the center, a staircase, and two principal rooms to the right. To the left of the hall is a dairy with a pantry behind it, and a kitchen located in the rear wing. The right-hand end of the house includes a converted granary, and there is a 20th-century extension at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four original windows, which are 30-pane hornless sashes with cambered brick arches above. The original six-panel door is located to the left of center and is sheltered by a slate pentice supported by two slender wooden columns, accessed by stone steps. The former granary at the right-hand end is lower and features a 30-pane sash window above a blocked doorway, with stone steps leading up to the first floor on its end wall.

In front of the house, there is a low garden wall topped with iron railings that have fleur-de-lys finials, along with a matching gate. The interior retains much of its original joinery, including panelled shutters and doors, as well as a staircase with column newels and stick balusters. This farmhouse is a well-preserved example of a modest early Victorian dwelling.
