Description
15 High Street is a Grade II listed building with a history dating back to the late 16th century. The rear section of the building faces the churchyard and is two storeys high, featuring irregular window placements. It has a Welsh slate roof with a prominent masonry gable stack at the north end and plain eaves. The exterior is made of random Devonian limestone rubble with a roughcast finish, and openings have timber lintels. The former mullioned windows were replaced in the early 19th century with sash windows.
Inside, there is a lower section of a newel staircase that is partly recessed into the wall, separated by a muntin and plank partition. The staircase features turned balusters with a closed string and square newels. The ground floor back room, which was once a parlour, boasts Elizabethan plaster ceilings adorned with rosettes and ribwork.
The front of the building, rebuilt in the early 19th century, is three storeys high and has two paired windows. It features a hipped Welsh slate roof with a coved eaves cornice and a rendered masonry return on the east side. The front is slate-hung and timber framed, with architraved sash windows. The mid-19th century shopfront is notable for its boxed-out cornice supported by consoles, an engraved glass fascia, and a shop window with columnette mullions and arched lights. This building has served as a jeweller's shop since around 1800.
