Description
This is a barn located immediately north of Compton Castle, dating from around the 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with dressed quoins and features a thatched roof with gabled and hipped ends, as well as widely overhanging eaves on the east side, which faces the forecourt of Compton Castle. The barn has central cart doors that are flanked by flat buttresses, with two additional similar buttresses on the right side that border blocked cart entrances. The west side of the barn is similar, but the cart entrances are not blocked. There are some ventilation slits present. The south end has 20th-century windows and doors, and the roof trusses are also from the 20th century. The barn is designated as Grade II* due to its close association with Compton Castle.
