Description

RINGMORE RENTON LANE SX 64 NE (north side) 5/170 Farmbuildings at Renton Farm

GV II

Group of farmbuildings round 3 sides of courtyard. Early C19, probably 1822 with farmhouse (qv). Rubble, some rendering, slate roofs. A practically unspoiled group with hipped roof granary near farmhouse, then 2 barns forming right angle, both at upper level over shippons; an open shelter shed, then at return enclosing courtyard in line with front of farmhouse, cart shed with loft over. All linked to front of house with rubble wall and main entry for court- yard. Granary, probably later than remainder, has plank door and 4-pane sash, then stairs to upper door; adjoining barn has ventilating slits near eaves, above 3 openings to voussoirs, with original doors having ventilating upper levels. Stone staircase rises in corner to access both barns. Return barn also 2 early plank doors under ventilation slits including one in cross form; one panel possibly for date stone, but no inscription legible. Cart shed has steps to loft door in outer gable with pigeon openings above. An excellent farm group, unaltered externally. Interiors not inspected.
