Description

The farmbuildings at Renton Farm date from the early 19th century, likely around 1822, and are arranged around three sides of a courtyard. Constructed from rubble with some rendering and slate roofs, this group remains largely unspoiled. It features a granary with a hipped roof located near the farmhouse, along with two barns that form a right angle, both situated at an upper level over shippons. There is also an open shelter shed and a cart shed with a loft above, which encloses the courtyard in line with the front of the farmhouse.

The granary, probably built later than the other structures, has a plank door and a four-pane sash window, along with stairs leading to an upper door. The adjoining barn includes ventilating slits near the eaves, above three openings with voussoirs, and original doors that feature ventilating upper sections. A stone staircase in the corner provides access to both barns. The return barn has two early plank doors under ventilation slits, including one in a cross shape; there is a panel that may have been intended for a date stone, but no inscription is visible. The cart shed has steps leading to a loft door in the outer gable, with pigeon openings above. This is an excellent example of a farm group that has not been altered externally, although the interiors have not been inspected.
