Description
Renton Farmhouse is a farmhouse reputed to have been built in 1822. It features a rubble construction with a slate-hung front and a slate roof that has gable stacks and box eaves. The building has a symmetrical front leading to a central hall, with a lean-to stable on the left side that has a roof sloping up to the level of the eaves. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows, which are 12-pane sashes; two of these are original, while the ground floor right window has been replaced with a four-pane window from 1985. The central entrance has a fielded six-panel door set in panelled reveals, topped by a fully glazed gabled 19th-century porch with margin bars. Inside, there is a central stick stair with a mahogany handrail, and the ground floor retains mostly original panelled doors. The attached stable building includes a loft above. This handsome early 19th-century farmhouse is still in use as a farmhouse as of 1986 and has seen little modification. It is accompanied by a good courtyard of farm buildings.
