Description
No. 11 Church Street is a small house located at the end of a row, next to the chapel forecourt. It dates from the mid-19th century, although the doorcase is earlier and likely taken from another building. The house has a smooth rendered exterior and a slate roof.
It is two storeys high and features one window on the left side. Each floor has a 16-pane sash window with a moulded architrave that includes ears and haunches, set on a stone sill supported by small brackets. To the right, there is an elaborate fluted Roman Doric portico with an entablature, a bold double-scroll broken pediment, and a central fluted colonnette topped with an acorn. The entrance features a good six-panel fielded door with panelled reveals, positioned at the extreme right side of the front.
The house has paired brackets at the eaves and a channelled pilaster on the left side, which returns to the gable. The gable has two elliptical-headed openings on the first floor; the left one is blank, while the right has a 12-pane sash window. There is a plinth that slopes down to the pavement, a gable stack on the left, and decorative ridge cresting. The building has an acute-angled outer corner, aligning with the off-square plot boundary.
