Description
The Baptist Chapel, founded in 1806, features a main front that was later updated in the 19th century. The building is rendered, with a slate-hung back and return, and has a hipped slate roof at the rear. The facade is pedimented and includes an arched central light with radial bars and a broad architrave that rises above a thin cornice. The full cornice moulding on the pediment slopes down and is adorned with a large scrolled central acroterion and smaller terminal acroteria.
At the front, there is a lower enclosed portico that contains three-light casements with round-headed lights under segmental heads, flanking a pair of panelled doors topped by a transom light that also has a segmental head. The building features plain end pilasters and panelled pilasters for the door unit, with sunk panels below the windows. A continuous frieze and cornice run along the top, capped by a blocking course. The back of the chapel has two arched sash windows at each of two levels, with a 12-panel design, but also includes a square light set into the glazing of the arch.
