Description
The outbuilding located parallel to the west of Nos 46B and 48B on Fore Street is likely from the 16th century or earlier. It may contain a 14th-century cruck and is associated with the monks of Buckfast Abbey. The structure is made of roughly coursed stone and is rectangular with a short crosswing featuring a gable on the northwest side. It has a moderate pitch roof with pudlogholes and a casement window. The west face includes casements with glazing bars that are irregularly placed on both the ground and first floors, an archway with a chamfer, a two-panel door, and a massive chimney. This outbuilding, which is probably from the 17th century or earlier, is rectangular in plan, built of narrow coursed stone, and has a hipped slate roof supported by new roof trusses. The east face features three two-light wood mullioned barred openings under the eaves and three casement windows of various types on the ground floor, along with a wide doorway that has a hewn wood triple lintel. The building is currently used for storage and as a workshop. It is part of a group that includes Nos 42 to 84 (even), No 92, and The Shambles.
