Description

Rock Farmhouse is a small farmhouse dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with an asbestos slate roof that has gabled ends and rendered chimney stacks. The original layout is uncertain, but it appears to consist of two rooms with a short rear wing at right angles on the higher left side, creating an overall L-shaped plan. There are later additions, including a rear outshut in the angle of the wing, one at the lower gable end, and another at the side of the wing at the upper end. A large projecting chimney stack with an oven is located at the lower gable end, and there is an internal stack at the gable end of the wing.

The exterior features two storeys and a two-window range. The gable end of the wing to the left has an internal stack. The ground floor has large 20th-century casements with three lights, while the first floor has two-light casements. A central doorway is topped by a 20th-century gabled porch. The large projecting chimney stack at the lower gable end has set-offs and a rounded oven that projects at the base.

Inside, the room at the higher end has a chamfered ceiling beam with straight cut stops and a blocked fireplace. The room at the lower end also features a blocked fireplace. A cupboard opposite the rear doorway, under the central stairs, has an 18th-century fielded-panel door. The central stair is located opposite the front entrance, between the higher and lower end rooms.
