Description

Court Barton is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-17th century, with later additions from the 19th or 20th century and modernisation in the late 20th century. The building features slatestone rubble walls and an asbestos slate roof that is hipped at the left end, half-hipped at the right, and gabled at the rear wing. There is a brick stack at the right end and a rubble lateral stack with a brick shaft at the rear. The layout consists of a two-room-and-through-passage plan, with a two-storey porch and possibly an unheated wing behind the right end. The left side likely served as a hall, heated by a fireplace on the rear wall, while the right side was the kitchen. A single-storey addition from the 19th or 20th century is located behind the left end. The exterior is two storeys high, featuring a regular two-window front with late 20th-century PVC casements and a set of French windows on the ground floor to the right. At the centre, there is a large gabled two-storey porch with a South Hams type round-headed arched doorway, which includes a 19th-century gate with railings above. The inner door is panelled and dates from the 19th or 20th century. The interior does not display any early features, as fireplaces and beams may have been obscured by the modernisation in the 20th century.
