Description
This barn, located approximately 20 metres south of Strashleigh Manor House, dates from the 16th century. It is constructed of slate rubble with bands of granite and features granite dressings. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with asbestos slate, with gabled ends, one of which is bitumenised. There is a moulded granite plinth and granite ventilation slits that are internally splayed. The floor has been inserted, and there are segmental arched loft doorways. On the south side, there are later additions, including a horse engine house. Inside, the ventilation slits have four-centre arch reararches, and the barn has twelve bays with collar-braced roof trusses that have angled principals, which are angled at their bases above the wall plate.
