Description
Strashleigh Manor House is a farmhouse that represents the remaining section of a larger house, originally built in the 16th century. The building has been partly demolished and significantly altered in 1934. It is constructed of stone, now roughcast, and features bands of slate and stone. The roof is slate, with a combination of hipped and gabled sections, forming an L-shape. The house stands two storeys tall, with an east wing dating from the 18th century that has five bays, some of which are blind. The remainder of the windows are 20th-century cross mullion and transom types, and there is a 20th-century lean-to porch at the center. At the rear (west), there is a truncated wing with a two-storey porch that includes a four-centred arch doorway with continuous roll moulding. The western part of the house has been reduced to one storey but still features a granite chamfered cross mullion and transom window. The building is topped with large granite chimney stacks that have moulded caps. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been severely modernised, with the late 17th-century stairs featuring twisted balusters having been reconstructed. Strashleigh was the residence of the Strashleigh family from the early 13th century until the last family member passed away in 1583.
