Description

Wynards is a house from the early 19th century located on the north side of Bellaire in Pilton, Barnstaple. It features solid rendered walls and a slated roof, with an old red brick chimney, partly rendered, on the left end wall, which has a stepped bandcourse at the top and spiked pots. There is a slightly later red brick chimney, also partly rendered, on the right end wall. The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range.

The right-hand ground storey window has been replaced by a round-arched doorway that features a six-panelled door with a knocker and letterbox, where the two bottom panels are flush with reeded surrounds. Above the door is a fanlight with radial bars. The windows are six-paned sashes, except for a blind window to the right on the upper storey. A raised band runs between the storeys, and there is a moulded board below the eaves with a gutter that has lion-heads. The right side wall includes a tall, flat-headed stair window with small-paned sashes.

While the interior has not been inspected, the ground-floor front windows are noted to have panelled shutters, and there is a half-glazed inner front door with margin-panes.

The front garden is enclosed on the front and left sides by a low rendered wall, which is made of part stone rubble and part red brick, topped with a coping of flat red tiles. An iron railing with simple pointed tops stands on this wall, along with a gate in the same style that features an old catch.
