Description
The former cemetery chapel in Ilfracombe, dated 1855, was designed by Edward Ashworth and is now derelict. It is constructed of roughly coursed slate with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a simple rectangular shape with three bays and features a ritual porch at the west end. The south side has two-light early-Perpendicular windows, with buttresses positioned between and at the corners, which have set-offs. The opposite long elevation is built against a retaining wall and does not have any windows. The east end features a three-light ritual window. The gables are coped, and there is a bellcote above the porch, which has a plaque commemorating its foundation by Richard and Anne Bligh. This chapel was intended for the use of members of all Christian denominations for all time.
