Description
The Post Office is a house dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed of colourwashed cob and stone rubble, featuring painted window surrounds and a slate roof with a gable end. The building has a three-cell cross-passage plan, with an axial brick stack backing onto the cross-passage and another brick stack located at the upper gable end and on the rear wall at the lower end. It stands two storeys high, with staircases at the back of the cross-passage and at the front upper end.
At the lower end, there is a right-angled single-storey projection with a gable-ended pantiled roof, which includes a late 19th-century porch to the cross-passage, featuring a pantiled lean-to roof and a timber segmental arch supported by brackets. The front has a three-window range of sash windows (2/2), along with one three-light casement window (12 panes each light) at the upper end and a tripartite sash window (2/2) in the hall. Although no notable interior features are visible, it is said that there is concealed wooden panelling in the hall. The original roof trusses appear to be intact.
