Description
Springfield Lodge is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century but was remodeled and extended in the 19th century in the cottage orné style. The building features partially rendered stone and cob with dressed stone quoins. It has a thatched roof, gable-ended to the north and hipped at the south end, with two axial brick stacks on the extensions. The cottage has a single-storey T-shaped plan.
On the east side facing the road, the projecting bottom portion of the T-shape includes a canted bay window with a two-light window featuring leaded lights and hood moulds in a recess to the left, along with a brick extension and a rendered outshut to the right. There is a 20th-century extension at the right gable end with a slated roof.
The west facade shows the thatch projecting as heads over canted bay windows at each end, which also have diamond leaded lights. Between these are two similarly patterned two-light windows, with the right window featuring a dripstone with returned ends. A doorway with a thatched porch is located at the south end, with a two-light window with leaded lights and a hood mould with returned ends to its right. The interior has not been inspected.
