Description
Two adjoining houses, formerly a farmhouse, were originally built in the early 16th century and extensively remodelled and extended in the late 20th century. The walls are rendered cob and rubble, and the roof is thatched, half-hipped with a central slate-capped parapet. A large rubble stack with an inward-sloping brick cap and slated offsets is present, along with an axial brick stack. Originally featuring a 3-room and through-passage open-hall plan, the internal partitions have been significantly altered due to the division and extension into two separate dwellings. The original façade had a 5-window range; it now features 3-light 19th-century timber casements (with three panes per light), alongside a 20th-century bay of 2-light casements at the lower end. A projecting through-passage porch with a slated lean-to roof adjoins the lateral stack. At the rear of No. 1, there is a ground-floor window with chamfered mullions and a timber lintel; the timber is reused from original windows dating to the 17th century. Inside No. 1, a single smoke-blackened truss is visible, with straight principals and a smoke-blackened ridge purlin.
