Description
The stables and coach house adjoining Litchaton Farmhouse to the southwest were built in the 18th century. The structure features an uncoursed stone rubble ground floor with some brick dressings and a cob first floor. It has a gable-ended roof covered with 20th-century interlocking tiles.
The building is arranged at right angles to the front of the west end of Litchaton Farmhouse, facing east. The stables are located on the right with a loft, while the former coach house is on the left. The building has two storeys.
On the exterior, there are two boarded loft doors on the right, with the right-hand door having a gablet above it. The ground floor includes two windows and four boarded doors, all featuring wooden lintels. The left-hand window was formerly a doorway, indicated by straight joints beneath it. The right-hand door serves as a back door to the adjoining farmhouse. The former coach house on the left has a wooden lintel but no doors. There is an integral brick stack at the rear of the right-hand end, which may suggest the presence of former accommodation for a coachman or groom.
The building is part of a farmstead group that includes the adjoining farmhouse, garden walls, and an adjoining barn.
