Description

NORTH MOLTON RAPSCOTT HILL SS 63 SE 9/176 Little Rapscott - GV II Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C17 with mid to late C19 alterations. Cob on stone rubble plinth, rendered to front and sides. Gable-ended C20 asbestos-slate roof. Stone stack to rear with weatherings and C19 red-brick shaft, and C19 brick ridge stack to left. Plan and development: C17 four-room plan, facing south (ground falls to left). Consisting of hall with integral lateral stack to rear and entrance to front at right, probable service room to left with former dairy beyond and upper room to right (possible former inner room, now kitchen), with entrance in gable end. Eaves raised in the C19. Two storeys. Exterior: Asymmetrically-fenestrated front. Three windows to first floor and 4 to ground floor; C19 boxed 4-pane sashes, except for small C19 two -pane ground-floor sash to left. C19 boarded door between first and second windows from right with beaded pegged frame. Doorway in right-hand gabel end too. Interior: Plastered walls. C18 door between hall and left-hand ground-floor room. Old boarded doors to first floor. Roofspace not inspected. This house forms part of a large farmstead group, also including Great Rapscott Farmhouse (q.v.) and Little Rapscott (q.v.).
