Description

Rowden Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th century or early 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 20th century. The building has a core of cob and rubble, with 20th-century rendering on the front and left side, while the rear elevations reveal exposed cob. The stacks feature tall brick shafts from the 19th and 20th centuries, and the roofs are covered with corrugated iron and asbestos sheeting.

The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan and appears to be a three-unit house with a through-passage. The lower right end has been extended and is now used as a barn, although this may have been the original layout. The central hall has a front lateral stack with a projecting breast, while the inner room has a gable end stack. There is also a rear wing at right angles to the inner room, which includes a gable end stack.

The exterior of the house is two storeys high. The front features two 20th-century casement windows in the inner room and another 20th-century window on the ground floor of the hall. To the right, there is a door opening leading into the through-passage, with a blocked rear opening and a recessed plank door. The front is partially obscured by a 20th-century glazed conservatory. Attached to the right is a barn with three ground floor door openings, all fitted with plank doors and wooden frames, along with a small blocked square window opening and a hay loft door under the eaves, which also has a plank door. The rear wing includes a 20th-century casement and a 19th-century three-light casement with the glazing bars removed. The rear elevation does not have any window openings. The interior and roof have not been seen.
