Description

SS 81 NW ROSE ASH NETTLEFORD HILL

9/115 Nettleford Old Farmhouse -

II

Farmhouse, disused at time of survey. Circa mid C17, possibly re-roofed in the C19. Rendered cob and stone rubble; slate roof, gabled at ends; left end stack, front right corner stack. Plan: Single depth plan, 2 rooms wide with a rear right projection containing the stair and an entrance into a lean-to adjoining at the left end. It is possible that this was originally a 3 room and cross passage house, the lower end having been truncated and the present lean-to occupying the position of the former passage, leaving the C17 hall, to the left, and an inner room parlour to the right. Exterior: Asymmetrical 2 window front with late C19/early C20 small-pane timber casements, C19 front door into lean-to at left. Interior: The left hand room has a C17 chamfered stopped doorframe from the lean-to, an open fireplace with a chamfered stopped lintel and a bread oven and crossbeam with scroll nick stops. The right hand room has a chamfered crossbeam and a C17 chamfered stopped doorframe to the rear right stair projection which contains a C19 or later stair. Roof Apex not inspected but principal rafters appear to be straight and may to C19.
