Description
North Coombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th or 16th century. It is constructed of random rubble with a hipped roof covered in asbestos slates and has two brick ridge stacks. The building has a three-room and through-passage plan, with indications of a former open hall.
The entrance front is two storeys high and features a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with two pairs of windows on each side. There are four 20th-century two-light casements, along with a two-light and a three-light casement from the 19th century. To the right, there is a section that is slightly set back, which houses a 19th-century dairy. The farmhouse has two door openings, one on the left and one on the right, with one of the doors located in a lean-to structure.
On the rear elevation, there is a narrow window opening that contains a two-light casement, as well as a four-light chamfered wooden mullioned window from the 16th or 17th century, and a 20th-century dormer. Inside, the farmhouse features interesting elements such as chamfered fireplace bressumers and ceiling beams, along with evidence of a smoke-blackened roof.
