Description

Muckford Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-19th century, possibly as a remodelling of an earlier house. It is constructed from colourwashed rendered cob and stone rubble, topped with a slate roof that has gabled ends. The building features end stacks with brick shafts on the main range and an end stack on the rear wing.

The overall layout is in an L shape, with a single-depth main range facing south. This main range contains two principal heated rooms, one on each side of the central entrance, which likely leads to the staircase. There is a rear left kitchen wing that runs at right angles to the main range, featuring a separate entrance on the outer return wall. A lean-to structure extends across the rear of the main range.

The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay front. The central entrance includes a panelled 19th-century front door with an overlight that has glazing bars. The windows are also 19th-century small-pane sash windows. On the rear elevation, there is a central two-light 19th-century small-pane casement window, likely providing light to the staircase.

The interior has not been inspected, but the farmhouse is described as modest yet very complete for its period. It has group value with a likely contemporary farm building located to the rear of the house.
