Description
Great Halfsbury Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob. It features a hipped scantle slate roof with brick stacks at each end, with the left end stack having been rebuilt. The building has a symmetrical double depth plan, with a principal room on each side of a central passage that contains the main staircase. There is a former salting house located at the rear of the left-hand room, and a secondary servants' staircase situated on the rear left side of the passage, with a kitchen at the back of the right-hand room.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range, displaying a symmetrical façade. Most of the windows are 19th-century, consisting of three-light casements with eight panes per light, except for the ground floor left-hand window, which has three panes per light. The central door, which is of 20th-century design, includes an overlight and a timber canopy. A lean-to structure is present at the right end of the building.
Inside, the farmhouse retains early 19th-century joinery, including four-panelled doors and intact staircases. The right-hand room features an open fireplace with a timber lintel, and the rear kitchen contains a bread oven.
