Description
Yarnacott Farmhouse, which includes an attached cider house to the west, is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 16th century, with remodeling from the 17th century and alterations in the 20th century. The cider house is from the 17th century, with 19th-century modifications. The farmhouse is constructed of painted rendered stone and cob, topped with a tiled roof, while the cider house is made of stone rubble with a corrugated iron roof.
The farmhouse features a tall lateral rubble stack with offsets, and it follows a three-room cross-passage plan, indicating it was probably originally an open hall house. Inside, there is a cupboard in the through-passage with a blocked rear entrance. The building has two storeys and a four-window range, with 19th and 20th-century windows. There is a corrugated asbestos canopy over slate-capped steps leading to the cross-passage doorway, and a buttress at the left end. The cider house has external steps leading to a loft with a plank door and a five-light timber mullion window at the rear.
Inside the farmhouse, there is a notable plank and muntin screen at the upper end of the hall, which is six panels wide with chamfered and roll-moulded muntins, stopped above the dais bench. The hall's ceiling beams are unadorned, and there are three raised cruck trusses set low over the hall and inner room, suggesting that it may have once been an open hall house, although an inspection of the roof was not possible. The cider house features stop-chamfered beams.
