Description

Lake Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 17th century, which was completely remodeled in the early 19th century. It is constructed from stuccoed stone rubble and cob, topped with a slate roof featuring gable end brick stacks and a rear lateral brick stack. The building has a three-room cross-passage plan, with the lower end located to the right, and is two storeys high, flanked by single-storey outshuts at the rear. The 19th-century remodeling did not alter the original 17th-century plan.

The exterior features two storeys and a four-window range. The three right-hand bays are designed to be symmetrical, all containing 16-pane sash windows above 20-pane sash windows on either side of an early 20th-century porch that has a gabled slate roof. The inner door is framed by a rusticated quoined surround and a cambered lintel, with a plank door that has three semi-circular headed glazed upper panels. The left end bay contains a 19th-century three-light casement window with ten panes per light, situated above a 20th-century three-light window. The building also has a moulded eaves cornice and rusticated quoins.

Inside, most of the features were altered in the 20th century, but some early 19th-century joinery remains, and the room at the right end has a moulded plaster cornice.
