Description

Limebeers Oakwell Farm is a farmhouse that dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is currently unoccupied and is constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with the rear being unrendered. The roof is thatched with gable ends. There is a front lateral stack towards the right end, which has a pronounced batter and is heightened in brick with a slated bread oven projection. Additionally, there is a lateral stone rubble stack with a tall brick shaft towards the rear left end.

The building has an L-shaped plan, with a direct entry into a parlour that is heated by the rear lateral stack on the left end. The kitchen is on the right, heated by the front lateral stack, with an entry at the right end and a staircase running up the rear wall. The rear wing includes a scullery or dairy behind the kitchen and an integral lofted outbuilding beyond.

The exterior features two storeys and a two-window range. There are early 20th-century four-light and two-light casements, with two panes per light, above a 20th-century two-light window to the left of the porch, which has a pantiled lean-to roof in line with the lateral stack. The porch has a plank door. The right side of the rear wing has a 20th-century lean-to porch to the left, with a slate roof and a plank door leading to the outbuilding on the right.

Inside, the original fireplaces are likely concealed behind 20th-century grates, and there is a creamery on the rear wall of the kitchen. The interior mainly features late 19th-century and early 20th-century joinery. Although the roof is not accessible, the visible feet of rough principals suggest that the late 17th-century or early 18th-century roof structure is entirely intact.

Limebeers Oakwell Farm is in a poor state of repair, having been unoccupied for many years.
