Description
St George's House, originally known as The Rectory, is a late 18th-century building that has been converted into a house and holiday centre. It was extended in the early 19th century. The structure is made of stucco and features a hipped slate roof with deep eaves and a moulded cornice. It has a three-sided courtyard plan, with two rear projections flanking a round-arched stair window at the back.
The building stands two storeys tall and consists of five bays, with the central bay slightly projecting forward. An early 19th-century extension has been added to the right end, which is blind to the facade. The windows include five hornless sash windows from the 18th and 19th centuries, with six over six panes, and two additional hornless sash windows with six over nine panes, all featuring original glass. These are situated on either side of a central Tuscan porch supported by two columns and topped with a pediment. The entrance has a six-panelled door, with the upper four panels being glazed.
Inside, the principal rooms are adorned with plaster cornices and marble chimneypieces featuring fluted pilasters. The former breakfast room in the added bay at the right end has a plaster cornice and a round-arched marble chimneypiece with a keystone.
