Description

HOLCOMBE ROGUS HOLCOMBE ROGUS ST 01 NE 5/129 Front wall and gateway to Holcombe - Court GV II Front wall and gateway. Mid C19. Grey-coloured local chert rubble laid to rough courses and cream-coloured limestone ashlar detail. Tall boundary wall with rubble weathered coping. It stands on the south-east side of the grounds (towards the village) and separates the grounds from the road. It turns the right corner and returns north-westwards up the lane to the Church of All Saints (q.v) as far as the Priest House (q.v). Towards the right end it rises over the ashlar gateway, a tall round-headed arch with moulded surround. This contains C19 wrought iron gates. Further left the walls curves in to a secondary gateway. Left of this it ramps down to a lower level. Up the lane, near the Priest House is a blocked arch-headed niche from a former water fountain.
