Description

HOLCOMBE ROGUS FORE STREET, Holcombe Rogus ST 01 NE 5/112 Hurleys - GV II House. C16 origins, much rebuilt in mid or late C19. Plastered stone rubble, maybe with cob; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; slate roof. Plan: 2-room plan house facing south-west. It has a central lobby entrance onto the side of an axial stack which serves the larger right-hand room. The left end now includes a garage. Service rooms in rear outshots, the right one with a stack backing onto the main block. 2 storeys. Exterior: irregular 3-window front of PVC windows with pattern of glazing bars like 16-pane sashes. C20 garage doors to left and nearly central doorway contains a C20 door with a contemporary hood. Roof runs continuously with the roofs of the adjoining properties. Interior: is largely the result of C19 and C20 modernisations. The right room has a large stone rubble fireplace with a soffit-chamfered oak lintel with bar-scroll stops (mid C17 in date). The roof is mostly C20 but includes one C16 or C17 roof truss. It is probably a jointed cruck but the lower parts are hidden. This house is one of an attractive group of listed buildings in the centre of Holcombe Rogus village.
