Description

HOLCOMBE ROGUS HOLCOMBE ROGUS ST 01 NE 5/120 - Boundary walls enclosing graveyard of Church of All Saints GV II Churchyard boundary walls. Probably C19, parts maybe earlier. Local stone rubble. All four sides of the churchyard are enclosed. The south and east walls are relatively low, the north wall is taller and the east wall is taller still. The south wall which abuts the front of the Priest House (q.v) also includes the main gateway which is flanked by C19 ashlar posts which are square in section with plain caps surmounted by low pyramids. The tall east wall, which also abuts the Priest House, separates the churchyard from the grounds of Holcombe Court. Its construction is neater than the others and it includes a large 2-centred arch of cream-coloured limestone ashlar. These walls are an important visual component to a very attractive group of listed buildings in the vicinty of the Church of All Saints (q.v) the Priest House (q.v), the Old Vicarage (q.v) and Holcombe Court (q.v).
