Description
The boundary wall and two archways on the west and south sides of the churchyard of the Church of All Saints date from different periods, with the archway to the west likely from the late 15th century or early 16th century, while the rest of the structure is probably from the later 19th century. The wall is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features cast-iron railings.
The western archway has chamfered piers with buttresses, a moulded depressed arch with a hood-mould that includes square stops, and a 20th-century finial cross. It also has a two-stage hipped and pitched cavetto-moulded parapet. The boundary wall curves around to Crawford Street and stands approximately 1 to 2 meters high, with 16 ramps leading down the slope; the original railings have been removed.
At the curved southern corner facing King Street West, there is a 19th-century archway that mimics the western archway but includes a flight of steps on the inner side leading up to the church gardens. Beyond this archway, the wall continues along King Street West, reaching the former Reform Club building, where it turns back towards the church. This section of the wall is approximately 3 meters high, features three ramps to King Street West, and is topped with cast-iron railings that match those surrounding the church. The boundary wall and archways form a group with the Church of All Saints.
